Daughter of the king, Psyche was wooed anonymously by Cupid at the behest of his mother, Venus, who was jealous of her beauty. When Psyche discovered who her lover was, Cupid fled. But having fallen in love, they reunited after many hardships, and Psyche was made goddess.
