California native Arthur Okamura (1932-2009) studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and Yale University and taught at the California School of the Arts for over 30 years. The quiet tonal qualities of this abstract expressionist painting reflect the calm meditative nature of his Asian heritage. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and the Art Institute of Chicago;
