About the Item

very colorful Fixé-sous-verre (paint under glass), representing a scene of horsemen hunting buffalo, in an oval, on a black background Indo-Portuguese or Philippine work, 18th century, in a 19th century frame Very interesting: Painting on reverse glass fixé-sous-verre is a difficult and meticulous artistic technique which is executed directly on a glass plate. The glass serves as a support like a canvas. fixed to the glass, it is through this support that we contemplate the work. Glass thus serves as both a support and a protective varnish. Please note that this is a “cold” painting technique so that the process does not require baking in the oven. The pigment is bonded to the glass by a varnish. The difficulty lies in having to predict the details, the shadows and the lights. We start with the foreground, then with the successive planes until the background (final stage which covers the entire window).
