If you're a mid century art collector, you've likely heard of Carlo of Hollywood and his unique and coveted pieces!
In the post war period, original art for the home was a rarity. There was no internet, very few art galleries in the new suburbia or throughout most of middle America and acquiring art prints was most often done by mail through mail order catalogs!
If you lived in a more upscale neighborhood, door to door sales people
would ring your bell and show you all the wonderful prints
they had available to decorate your home. Most people did not own
original art.
CARLO of HOLLYWOOD realized people wanted ORIGINAL art, not just prints. They wanted a signed original piece of modern art they could proudly point to when their guests or family visited! In Hollywood, there were enough buyers with disposable income to buy his original art. His shop had multiple painters beside himself, so that production could keep up with demand!
This is one of CARLO'S great "showpiece" paintings - an Arab Market scene with delicious purples and blacks creating a magical Arabian Nights type mood! In the fifties, exotic locales were very popular because travel was still very limited.
This work has the CARLO badge and the most elaborate frame he offered!
It was a painting a Hollywood Celebrity could put in their estate and show off! For a period, his unique subjects and paintings were all the rage in Hollywood and Beverly Hills!
This work is in very fine vintage condition and seems as it likely was over sixty years ago! A testament to the quality Carlo put into his work!
