‘Le Mort de Penthésilée’ (The Death of Penthesilea – Classical Greek Tragedy) by French painter and illustrator André Hofer (1890 -1973).
Early 20th-century oil painting on board, initialled by the artist. In good condition and well-framed, ready to hang.
André Hofer exhibited regularly at the Salon de Independents from 1912, however, he earned his fame illustrating works by Kipling, Pearl Buck, Baudelaire, Balzac, Anatol France, Goethe, Victor Hugo, and Oscar Wilde among others.

Henri laville was born on February 7, 1916 in Bordeaux and died on December 27, 1995 at the age of 79 years. Very attached to his city, he entered the beautiful Arys de Bordeaux and was laureate of the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of that same city. He was also a student of the fine arts of Paris, following the obstination of a scholarship. Pensioner at Casa Velasquez in Madrid, a prize will be awarded. He will also obtain the Vermeil medal of the city of Paris.
