English, circa 1940 oil on canvas portrait of a young woman bearing a confident expression and the curious smile of Mona Lisa. A mottled background of taupe-gray is the perfect complement to her piercing blue eyes, red lips, and French-blue blouse. Sadly there is no visible signature to attribute an artist, the viewer is free to use their imagination to construct a narrative about who this intriguing subject may have been.
