An original oil on canvas of a society lady by John Strevens (1902-1990). Painted circa 1950 it is signed to the bottom left corner by the artist.
Framed dimensions : 16" x 13.5"

Famous for his free use of brushstrokes and beguiling subject matter, Strevens was widely celebrated in the 1960s and into the late 20th century. This painting is a particularly charming work, with a calm yet playful quality. The impasto oil shows a mastery of the medium. It is framed in a high-quality gilt frame.
John Strevens exhibited widely in London and in the USA. Women and children were his favourite subjects for his paintings, as they enabled him to ‘express his essentially romantic and idealistic outlook on life…’ (Dr T.
