About the Item
A most impressive and large scaled French 19th century pastel, signed E. Tourneux 1855. The wonderfully executed painting depicts a lovely hillside by the sea, with a group of personages dressed in colorful classical attire. They are standing at the top of a mountain, looking out at the countryside under a rich blue sky with a crescent moon. To the right are men coming up the hill, one of them carrying a box on his shoulder with a mule by their side. The pastel is set within its original giltwood frame with a fine mottled and beaded design.
