About the Item

An original Post-Impressionist framed gouache on paper landscape painting featuring a soft palette mostly made of brown and pale green colors, accented with delicate blue and white tones, this horizontal painting depicts life in a village in Brittany, France. Proudly sitting in the center of the composition is a woman in front of her house "à la française". The technique gives a certain sense of calm to the ensemble. Set inside a white frame, the painting is signed on the lower left. Without its frame, the painting measures 18 1/2" W x 12" H. With its nice proportions and peaceful subject, this landscape painting will bring a touch of elegance to any room. Signed and dated, artist unidentified.

He began his career at an early age (in elementary school). His formal training began at the Fort Wayne School of Art in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1935. The war years, and economic pressures put his art on hold until 1947 when he attended the Ringling School of Art and Design under Loran Wilford in Sarasota, Florida. He resided in Sarasota for the remainder of his life. In addition to his artwork, he was an instructor for periods of time in Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, and South Dakota.
