About the Item

A stunning oil painting by British artist William G. Meadows of “Plaza San Marco” framed in carved giltwood. The back of the painting shows off linen canvas in an elegantly aged patina. Meadows was born in England and lived from 1825-1907. This painting has largely impressionistic approaches to rendering of architecture and open space. While this depicts Venice like the other Meadows paintings that we have posted, it focuses less on the canals and more on architectural accuracy and dramatic lighting of Saint Marks Square, a popular central gathering area in the city. Hanging wire on the back ready to install. W. Meadows signature on the bottom right. In good condition. Some gentle wear consistent with age and use. The canvas and frames on the back appear to be in especially good condition. This beautiful painting would make for a brilliantly classical focal point on any wall. Measurements: Width: 36" / 91.44 cm Depth: 3" / 7.62 cm Height: 27" / 68.58 cm
