About the Item
Karl Momen, Swedish b. 1937. This oil on canvas was painted in 1989 and finished in 1990, titled "The Golden Force." It is titled and signed on the reverse. Provenance: Marissa del Re Gallery, NYC with label on reverse.
Momen is the creator of the Metaphor: The Tree of Utah, an 87-foot (27 m) sculpture resembling a tree in the Bonneville Salt Flats off of Interstate 80. He financed the project himself and built it from 1982 to 1986, afterwards donating the sculpture to the state of Utah. Known For remaining true to the initiation he received early in his career into the modernist paradigm that still informs his distinctive style to the present day. Momen is the most long-lived exponent of early twentieth century Geometric abstraction movement. bauhaus, futurism art , geometric art, minimal art, Momen’s work has been exhibited widely in museums and galleries around the world, including solo exhibitions at such diverse locations as the Striped House in Tokyo (1985), and the Salt Lake Art Center in Salt Lake City (1985). He was thrice selected to be shown at the Biennale de Sculpture de Monte Carlo. Momen’s paintings and sculptures with their abstract geometric orbs, intersecting lines, and stylized organic forms are the result of a unique synthesis of Persian and Western worldviews; a potent mix that came to fruition in 1962 when Momen relocated to Sweden─a country known for its purity of design. Here he established himself, first as an award–winning architect, and then as an artist of resilience, with a doggedly idiosyncratic vision.

Charles Green studied at Leigh’s School of Fine Art and under the engraver, J W Whymper, before quickly establishing himself as a painter and illustrator.
