About the Item

Heinrich Deiters (1840-1916) Painting “Brushwood Collectors in an Autumn Landscape in Front of Haus Voerde” Oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right Created in 1889 Frame dimensions: Width 95.5 cm Height 64 cm Heinrich Deiters was an illustrator, painter, engraver, and occasional writer. He is considered part of the Düsseldorf school of painting and is particularly valued for his landscape paintings. Heinrich Deiters was born on September 5, 1840, in Münster. The son of bookseller and Catholic publisher Johann Heinrich Deiters (1805–1856) and his wife Magdalena Borgmeier, he decided to pursue an artistic career at the age of 17. In 1857, he began his studies with the painter brothers Andreas Aschenbach and Oswald Aschenbach, as well as with Alexander Michelis at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Heinrich Deiters was a member of the famous Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten, belonged to the Association of Düsseldorf Artists, and was chairman of the General German Art Cooperative. With his wife, who ran the Deiters-Preston fashion store, he had a daughter, Leonore Niessen-Deiters, who made a name for herself as a journalist and writer, and a son, Hans Deiters, who followed in his father's footsteps and became a painter and draftsman himself. Heinrich Deiters died on July 29, 1916, in Düsseldorf.
