About the Item
Reflecting a lost age of innocence, this charming watercolor painting was the basis for an advertisement by the New Holland Machine Company for its baler in 1952. Although the farmer is shown taking a break from his work in a local swimming hole, the primary focus of the painting is the New Holland baler, boldly painted in fire engine red. The painter, Paul Bowermaster, trained under N. C. Wyeth and other important illustration artists before being employed by New Holland in the late 1940s.
