He was a renowned French landscape painter and poet. Biography: José Mange, born on October 10, 1866, received a meticulous education and studied at the Catholic college of Aix-en-Provence until 1886. He expressed his desire to become an artist at the age of 18. Moving to Paris in the same year, he studied painting until 1890 under Jean-Paul Laurens and Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. Mange founded the Escolo Parisienco with Charles Maurras in 1892. Returning to Toulon in 1900, he continued to exhibit in Paris and locally. In 1916, he married Marguerite Santinacci and shifted his focus from a photographic workshop to painting. Mange exhibited extensively, including in Lyon and Hyères, and made a trip to Paris in 1929. He passed away on January 7, 1935. Friendships with Georges Bernanos: José Mange and his wife became friends with Georges Bernanos in 1931. Bernanos dedicated his work "The Great Fear of the Right-thinking" to Mange, expressing admiration. In 1934, Bernanos dedicated another book to Mange, recognising him as a Provençal gentleman. Public collections: Mange's works are featured in Toulon Art Museum and the Simon Segal Museum in Aups (Var).
