Wonderful large scale acrylic on canvas painting by noted Native American artist Darren Vigil Gray (b. 1959). Gray lives in New Mexico, and this energetic and gestural painting, entitled "To Be is To Be Related" was done C. 1992. Gray's work is a synergistic marriage of Native American mythology and meaning, inspiration of the Abstract Expressionist painters, and the style and abstraction of the Bay Area Figurative movement. His representation includes many prominent private collections as well as The Smithsonian Institution, The Wheelright Museum of the American Indian (who gave him a rare lauded mid-career retrospective exhibition in 2002) and The National Museum of The American Indian. We consider this to be one of the best examples of his work, from the period that is considered critically important in his oeuvre.
