Signed verso: M.Boccacci amidst a loosely drawn and colored self portrait in a Florentine cityscape.
Boccacci was born in Florence, in 1914. He was a student at Ente Nazionale Sordomuti (National School for the Deaf) and later studied art under the Master Gianni Vagnetti.
Deaf, he was very active and passionately devoted, throughout his life, to a number of different organizations in Italy that help to educate and gain rights for deaf people.
In 1982,under the presidency of Victor Ieralla, Boccacci was made a Knight and awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic for his work in this field.
On January 24, 1996, the city of Florence lost one of its favorite artists and citizens, when Marcello Boccacci passed away.
