About the Item

“Bloomsday” SALE June 16, 2024 Nighttown, oil on canvas, 1991, 88” x 54" by Heather Ryan Kelley. This painting is based upon James Joyce's "Ulysses." The modernist novel takes place on a single day, 16 June, 1904 in Dublin, Ireland. In 'Circe' the hallucinatory 15th chapter, central protagonists Leopold Bloom and Stephen Daedalus visit Nighttown, the red light district where they encounter prostitutes Zoe, Kitty and Florry, (the Three Graces) in Madame Cohen's brothel. The colors on top derives from a recurrent motif of the rainbow the seven colors ROY G. BIV-- in Joyce's late works Ulysses and Finnegans Wake. The cane is Stephen's ash plant, which he brandishes, crashing a chandelier in the brothel toward the end of the Nighttown chapter. The rest of the items relate to Bloom: Teapot -Bloom's conversation with Mrs Breen. Key-in Bloom's pocket. Potato-Zoe steals his talismanic potato. Clock- 4:30 time of Molly's appointment with Hugh 'Blazes' Boylan. Soap -Bloom bought it at Sweny's lemon soap it speaks. Fan-the Madame, Bella Cohen's fan speaks. Great for you English majors and Irish publicans.

"Accent", Monumental Charcoal on Canvas Painting by Jessica Scott Felder
By Jessica Scott-Felder
Located in Hanover, MA
11 foot by 9 foot frame stretched charcoal on canvas painting by Jessica Scott-Felder titled "Accent" 2009. Jessica utilizes drawings and installations with antique objects to transform spaces into psychological realms that are suggestive of maternal figures and ancestral and social narratives. Initially, the chairs represented matriarchal presence and have currently expanded to ancestry. Jessica’s work addresses issues in identity, heritage, culture, and society’s rapidly disintegrating connection to the past. Jessica's grandmother's living room has been a focal point of her work. She is visually exploring the suggestive qualities of furniture placement. Many of the images were derived from “Last Year at Marienbad...
