About the Item
A striking example of graphic design in the 1940s, which was moving from elegant Art Deco stylization to a looser, collage-like assemblage of overlapping images, this original painting celebrates the founding of the United Nations. A globe surrounded by huddled masses of people is shown in the lower left hand corner, while a modern family takes central position in the painting, a mother and child overlapping with a man at work at his drafting table. In the distance workers are assembling the steel structure of a new building, a theme that was common in the 1930s and 1940s. The rich, modern palette of brick red, plum and acid yellow-green is also notable. (Measurements include matte and frame.).
