About the Item
Wonderful vintage colorful (colorful) abstract modernist oil painting on canvas signed with the monogram 'O.H.' by Otto Herter (1924-2000) painted in 1993.
Otto Herter was born in Pjatigorsk, Russia in 1924 and died in Achern, Germany in 2000. His work is often, as is the case here, both abstract and expressive however, Herter was equally known for his paintings of landscapes.
In this unique work, Herter has started by simultaneously using both bright and pastel colours of yellow, red, blue, cream, lilac, pink and maroon. There is a wonderful energy and expressionist movement through this painting with areas of smoother, more blended colours punctuated by quicker, shorter brushstrokes towards the foreground.
Dimensions: 80 cm by 60 cm (canvas)
84.5 cm by 64 cm (framed).
The frame is original but, in our opinion, the painting would be better represented in a new frame - natural oak may suit this piece well.
