About the Item
Pair of oil on panel ships scene paintings, English. Signed enverso Arthur Smith, M.P. 1847 - the owner. Panels from "Dimes & Elam, Manufactures, 91. Gt. Russel St. Bloomsbury, London". Attributed to John Wilson Carmichael (British 1799-1868). Period frames. "Shipping in Calm Water" & "Near Dover". Typical of Carmichael is the great attention to detail, even including "flotsam" in the water.
