A fine pair of antique Italian watercolours by Filippo Indoni (1842–1908), each signed and dated F. Indoni Roma 1880.
Indoni was a respected 19th-century painter of the Roman school, known for his romanticised depictions of rural life and his deft use of watercolour. These works depict a countrywoman with a basket and a peasant man on a hillside path, both rendered with charm and fine detail. The figures are dressed in traditional Italian costume and set against light-filled landscapes evocative of the Roman Campagna.
Executed in watercolour on paper and laid to card, the works remain in excellent condition with strong, unfaded colour. Each is housed in its original carved and giltwood frame of the period.
