Pair of 19th century British equestrian oil paintings British, 19th Century Boards: Height 25cm, width 32cm Frames: Height 35cm, width 42cm, depth 4cm This attractive pair of 19th-century oil paintings beautifully captures the elegance and charm of Victorian sporting art. Rendered with fine detail and vibrant hues, the paintings are enhanced by their original wooden frames and equal dimensions, making them ideal for display as a complementary set. Each artwork features a 19th-century racehorse alongside its jockey, portrayed with striking use of colour and a keen eye for character. In the first composition, a chestnut horse is shown being led across an open landscape by a gentleman in stylish rural dress, likely the owner. The jockey, seated confidently atop the animal, wears vivid blue silks. The lower right corner bears a faint signature, and the reverse of the canvas includes indistinct handwritten text, presumably of the horse’s name.
