Wooden work board of an old Japanese lacquerware craftsman/wall hanging object

About the Item

This is a workbench used by a lacquerware craftsman around the Showa era. Originally, it was a workbench with drawers, but the drawer portion has been lost, leaving only the top board. This board was likely used when applying lacquer to wooden vessels, where the craftsman would apply or adjust the amount of lacquer. As a result, layers of red, black, and other colors have accumulated, creating beautiful, art-like layers of color. Despite its small size, the surface has slight unevenness, which gives it a three-dimensional effect, captivating the viewer. When hung on a wall, this workbench top exudes the atmosphere of an abstract painting, making it a very attractive piece for interior decoration. It has a unique texture that cannot be replicated by modern art, conveying a timeless charm. Each workbench used by a lacquerware craftsman is unique, with each one possessing a different expression, which adds to its great appeal. Additionally, the underside reveals the raw wood, showing that the material used is a hard wood, likely zelkova. The strength and durability of this wood support its function as a workbench and contribute to the beautiful surface. By using the groove on the underside, it can be easily mounted on a wall with nails. Furthermore, it can also be used as a display stand to showcase your favorite collection. This item, with its unique charm and historical value, will add a distinctive accent to any modern space. Its compact size allows it to naturally blend into your interior. Please consider incorporating this wonderful workbench into your room and experience the fusion of Japanese tradition and art. Thickness of the board: 2.3 cm, Weight:2.25㎏ [We are a company consisting of four different stores with four different brands. We offer a wide range of attractive items from all over the world with a focus on Japanese items. We offer Japanese antique furniture and tools that are different from the Japanese antique furniture and art that have been appreciated abroad. These tools were used in private homes and farmhouses in the past. They have been passed through a long time and have an attractive taste. The reality is that many of these items are now being discarded along with the demolition of houses. We are on a mission to re-evaluate these fascinating old objects and preserve them for future generations. And we have seen tens of thousands of items so far. We have used that experience to list the most fascinating items here. We can do this because of our long experience. We will rediscover the "beauty" produced in the life and culture of the common people, which is different from the Japanese art and culture that is known and scattered around the world, and present it to the world. ]
