About the Item
A framed black and white street photograph by Vivian Maier (American, 1926-2009), entitled "New York, NY, September 3, 1954", this is a gelatin silver print printed in 2014. This print depicts the rear view of a woman in cocktail attire with an elaborate hairstyle. The print was from no. 6 from an edition of 15, Gallery labeled verso shows the photographer's collection stamp, signed by John Maloof, detailing creation and print date as well as edition number in ink
Provenance: Howard Greenberg Gallery.
Image measures 11 7/8" x 12", with a sight size of 12 1/4" x 12 1/4" and a sheet size of 20" x 16". Framed dimensions are appx 24 5/8" x 20 5/8".
Vivian Maier took photos anonymously and obsessively throughout her life. Only toward the very end of her life, due to poverty, her films were discovered by accident and made known to the public. Her street life pictures are now considered great work of art and documentary of American life in the 20th century.
