Dubonnet is an aperitif that was created in 1846 in Paris, by Joseph Dubonnet and used as a remedy against malaria. It is a flavored vermouth, mainly with quinine, which comes in red and white. Its advertising slogan "Dubo, Dubon, Dubonnet" is visible on our poster. Adolphe Jean Marie Mouron known as Cassandre (born January 24, 1901 in Kharkov, Ukraine, died June 17, 1968 in Paris) is a graphic, poster and stage designer, lithographer, painter and typographer. He is best known for his posters advertising travel, for clients such as the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, Nord Express, Étoile du Nord, Dubonnet and the Normandie steamer in the 1930s. He is also the creator of the Yves Saint Laurent logo (1961). His posters are remarkable for their innovative graphic solutions and their frequent denotations to painters such as Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso. Cassandre is a major artist of the Art Deco period alongside Jean Carlu, Paul Colin and Charles Loupot. In 1897, Jean-Gabriel Monnet chose the emblem of the salamander to decorate his bottles. The salamander is a mythical animal with the power to triumph over flames. Leonetto Cappiello is an Italian painter, illustrator, caricaturist and poster artist, naturalized French in 1930. His poster career began in 1900 and continued until the 1930s. He remained loyal to the Vercasson printing press until the early 1920s , continues with “Les Imprimeries Réunies” and begins, at the same period, to work regularly for the publisher Devambez, with whom he signs, from 1921 to 1936, an exclusive contract.
