Grygar's design for 60s classic Cool Hand Luke, much like Paul Newman's protagonist, refuses to conform.
Marvellously original and alternative artwork on this Czech A1 film poster with Paul Newman looking very well cool. A wonderful design that doesn't fail to communicate!
Very rare especially in rolled condition and in this larger Czech size.
In Cool Hand Luke, Luke Jackson (Paul Newman') is a cool, gutsy prisoner in a Southern chain gang, who, while refusing to buckle under to authority, keeps escaping and being recaptured. The prisoners admire Luke because, as fellow prisoner Dragline (George Kennedy) explains it, "You're an original, that's what you are!" Nevertheless, the camp staff actively works to crush Luke until he finally breaks.
Like their neighbours in Poland, the designers of the Czech Republic, free from commercial constraints and enjoying far greater artistic freedom than their Western counterparts, treated film poster design as an art form. The result is an immensely powerful, wildly original and beautiful body of work.
This original vintage movie poster is sized 23 x 33 1/2 inches and will be sent rolled (unframed).
