About the Item
Original antique northern Ireland travel poster - Hotels Bundoran Rostrevor County Donegal & County Down Ireland - features two picturesque views depicting holiday makers enjoying the sandy beach at the seaside with beach huts and walks along the cliffs in front the grand hotels and hills in the background, the title with the Great Northern Railway Ireland logo above and information text below - Pleasurable transit Full en pension Combined coupons available from all principal GNR stations Tariff brochure Room plans etc. from Manager Hotels Department Dundalk or Belfast Amiens Street Dublin. The Great Northern Hotel in Bundoran was built by the Great Northern Railway Company (GNRI; 1876-1958) at the end of the 19th century when the town became a popular seaside resort; the Bundoran Golf Club was built at the same time, in 1894. Located at the foot of the Mourne Mountains in the small seaport of Rostrevor Co Down on the Carlingford Lough cove, the Great Northern Railway Company bought The Mourne Hotel (opened 1876) and renamed it the Great Northern Railway Hotel; the hotel was destroyed by a fire bomb during the Northern Ireland Troubles in 1978. Printed by R. Carswell and Son Ltd Belfast. Good condition, restored tears, staining, restored creasing, backed on linen.
