About the Item

WARRENPOINT AND THE MOUNTAINS of MOURNE, horizontal stone lithograph. Printer: J.B. Stephens. Professional acid-free archival linen-backed, ready to frame. B condition image with only minor wear on the 1/2" cream outer border and a horizontal tear that was repaired during linen backing (shown in image #7). The last document copy of this poster was sold in 2021 on 1st dibs for $4518. Rare Irish Railway (railroad) lithograph poster. Warrenpoint is a small, but beautiful town in County Down, Ireland. The hamlet itself is situated on the shores of Carlingford Lough at the gateway to the Mourne Mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty steeped in history and mythology. And though we couldn’t find a picture or likeness to verify the following claim, we suspect that the warrior with the flowing blonde mane pictured here is none other than Fionn MacCumhaill, the Irish giant who is said to have scared off a marauding Scottish giant by hurling a huge granite boulder across the lough and hitting him on the head. Horder does an exemplary job with her promotion for the Great Northern Railway Company, creating a travel promotion for an off-the-beaten-path destination that plays to a locale’s given strengths rather than trying to make it out to be anything more than it is.
