About the Item

18th Century French Wall and Border Decoration – Rococo Floral Frames, Plate XCIII This exquisite chromolithograph, Plate XCIII from *L'Ornement Polychrome*, features a series of richly adorned wall and panel decorations in the Rococo style, drawn from the refined interiors of 18th-century France. The designs reflect the height of Louis XV-era ornamentation, with graceful asymmetry, abundant floral garlands, and gilded scrollwork—hallmarks of Rococo elegance and lightness. The upper portion of the print showcases two large wall cartouches with central appliqués set against cream-colored grounds framed by lavish floral festoons and gold acanthus scrolls. Framed in deep burgundy red, these panels evoke the richness of salon wall décor or overdoor panels in aristocratic residences. The detailing includes roses, peonies, and forget-me-nots intertwined with gilded volutes and ribbon motifs—suggestive of love, luxury, and natural beauty. The lower section contains an array of decorative borders and corner moldings intended for architectural paneling, picture framing, or ceiling cornices. Each is executed with refined linearity and color balance, using pale blue, ivory, gold, and muted reds. One segment is particularly neoclassical, featuring stylized fleurs-de-lis, while others show continuous friezes of masks, shells, and festooned garlands. The framing options suggest flexibility for interior architects working in palatial or grand domestic settings. These designs were lithographed by Lassus and printed by Firmin-Didot in Paris around 1869, as part of Auguste Racinet’s influential *L'Ornement Polychrome*. The series served as a reference for decorators, restorers, and academic designers engaged in the 19th-century revival of historic styles, particularly in the beaux-arts and Second Empire contexts. This print is ideal for collectors, interior historians, or anyone seeking inspiration from French Rococo and neoclassical ornament. Condition: Excellent. Image area clean and vibrant. No foxing, tears, or repairs. Slight marginal toning consistent with age. Printed on strong, stable paper with full margins and sharp chromolithographic detail. Framing tips: Use a gilded frame with gentle curves or Rococo ornamentation. A rose, cream, or soft mint mat will enhance the floral palette and highlight the refined elegance of the artwork. Perfect for classic, romantic, or French-style interiors. Technique: Chromolithograph Maker: Lassus after Racinet, Paris, c.1869
