About the Item

A delicate hand-colored botanical engraving from the late 18th century, of Italian origin. This refined illustration features Hypericum fruticans and Oxyacantha angustifolia non spinosa, drawn with remarkable precision and a keen eye for botanical detail. The inscription “Candd Bobini” refers to Candido Bobini, an Italian naturalist or illustrator associated with scientific botanical works of the period. The print is numbered “P.V.4,” indicating it may have been part of a larger folio or natural history compendium. Printed on laid paper and bearing a subtle fleur-de-lis watermark, the piece reflects the high-quality craftsmanship typical of Tuscan or Bolognese paper mills in the 1700s. The soft palette of blues, greens, and ochres enhances its visual appeal, while the marbled frame and double matting give it a timeless, gallery-worthy presentation. A lovely example of Enlightenment-era botanical art, ideal for collectors, decorators, or anyone drawn to the intersection of art and science.
