Friedrich Martin von Reibisch served as the artistic director, while Dr. Franz Kottenkamp contributed scholarly commentary, ensuring that each image accurately represented the customs, attire, and martial practices of the medieval and early Renaissance periods. In this scene, two mounted warriors face off in what appears to be a stylized encounter. The horseman on the left, clad in chainmail and armed with a spear, carries a vibrant banner featuring a black eagle—a motif often associated with imperial or noble heraldry. His shield and red-lined surcoat add rich color contrasts, emphasizing his status and identity. Opposite him, the other rider, similarly armed and protected, wields a sword raised high and carries a shield of his own.
