Bridgens, these prints are part of the well-known series “Illustrations of the Manners and Costumes of France, Switzerland and Italy.” Bridgens was celebrated for his ethnographic detail and his ability to bring cultural subjects to life with a combination of historical accuracy and artistic flair.
The first print, titled “Costume of Mount Cenis,” shows a vibrant encounter between a local mountaineer and a young woman carrying a basket of fresh produce.
