About the Item

Antique print titled 'Anas Tadorna, Mas'. This print depicts the male common shelduck (Dutch: bergeend). The common shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) is a waterfowl species of the shelduck genus, Tadorna. It is widespread and common in Eurasia, mainly breeding in temperate and wintering in subtropical regions; in winter, it can also be found in the Maghreb. Its scientific name comes from the French name Tadorne for this species. This print originates from 'Nederlandsche Vogelen; volgens hunne huisdouding, aert, en eigenschappen beschreeven", Amsterdam, 1770-1829 by C. Nozeman, M. Houttuyn and J.C. The birds are depicted as they are in life, said to be depicted close to life sized and in their environment. Original text page included.
