Antique print titled 'Oudewil'. View of a church in Oudewil, Ceylon/Sri Lanka. This print was originally published as four prints on one sheet originating from 'Naauwkeurige beschryvinge van Malabar en Choromandel' by P. Baldaeus. Artists and Engravers: Father Philippus Baldaeus, Baelde or Philip Balde (October 1632, Delft - 1672, Geervliet) was a Dutch minister. He went to Jaffna, Ceylon with an invading Dutch force during 17th century. As the first European he documented the life, language and culture of Tamil people, living in the north of the island. Condition: Good, general age-related toning. Few tiny tears, please study image carefully. Date: 1672 Overall Size: 22.2 x 19.7 cm. Image Size: 16.1 x 12.7 cm.
