About the Item

Antique print titled 'Leeuwaerd'. Old bird's eye view of the city of Leeuwarden, Friesland. This print originates from 'Thooneel der Steden ende Sterckten van 't Vereenight Nederlandt met d'aengrensende Plaetsen soo in Brabandt Vlaenderen als anden Rhijn en elders verovert door de Waepenen der Groot-moghende Heeren Staeten onder het gheley vande seer Edele Hooghghebore Princen van Oranien', Antwerpen, 1680. This work is quite scarse and rarely offered for sale. The views are attractive with panoramic impressions of the cities set in a romantic rural or maritime scene. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Gasper Bouttats' after 'J. Peeters'. Gaspar Bouttats (1625-1695) was a Flemish engraver from Antwerp, mostly working for book publishers. Ioan / Jan I Peeters (1624-1677) was a Flemish painter of marine scenes. Later he also became an art dealer. He was a student of his brothers Bonaventura and Gilles. His students include his children Jan Frans and Isabelle and Adriaen van Bloemen. Condition: Very good, general age-related toning. Few minor spots. Please study image carefully. Date: 1680 Overall size: 30 x 20 cm. Image size: 24.5 x 13 cm. Antique prints have long been appreciated for both their aesthetic and investment value. They were the product of engraved, etched or lithographed plates. These plates were handmade out of wood or metal, which required an incredible level of skill, patience and craftsmanship. Whether you have a house with Victorian furniture or more contemporary decor an old engraving can enhance your living space. We offer a wide range of authentic antique prints for any budget.
