This historical print shows the Monument to Generals Wolfe and Montcalm, located in Quebec City, Canada. The striking obelisk rises from a tiered base surrounded by a neat wooden fence and lush landscaping. Figures in 19th-century dress, including a uniformed soldier and strolling ladies, add life to the scene. In the background, the viewer is treated to a detailed vista of the St. Lawrence River, complete with sailing vessels, riverside buildings, and forested hills, beautifully etched with fine linear detail. The sky, rendered with subtle crosshatching, evokes an atmospheric sense of calm and reverence.
At the bottom of the plate, the caption reads: “Monument de Wolfe et de Montcalm, à Québec,” identifying the memorial dedicated to both British General James Wolfe and French General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm, who died in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759.
