About the Item

Tomb of Gerard van Randenrode van der Aa, Pieter van Cuyck, 1730 - 1736 Antique print titled 'Hier leit begraven de weledele Joncheer Gerard van Randenrode (..)'. Coat of arms of Randenrode geseyt van der Aa. This print originates from 'Beschryving van 's Graven-Hage (..)' by Jacob de Riemer. Published 1730. Tomb of Gerard van der Aa, esquire of Randenrode, in the Grote or Sint-Jacobskerk in The Hague. Van der Aa lies in armor on a plateau supported by two putti. Above him nine coats of arms, including that of his family. The print is a heraldic engraving that features an array of family crests or coats of arms, each with distinctive heraldic symbols and designs signifying noble lineage or family heritage. The crests are richly ornamented with various heraldic devices such as feathers, animal motifs, and geometric patterns. The family names inscribed beside each crest on the print include: - Borghvael - Cuyck - Heym Beecke - Kerreman - Litre - Ver Liminghen - Pypenpoy. At the bottom, there is a figure of a knight in full armor lying down, which is a common motif in heraldic art symbolizing chivalric values or a memorial representation. The text below this figure is in an older form of Dutch detailing the name of Gerard van der Aa includes the date he died. The date mentioned in the text appears to be the 16th of October, 1600s (indicated by "MDC"). The inscription suggests that the print is a commemorative piece, perhaps for an individual associated with the names on the crests.

Detailed Engraving of The Greater Coat of Arms of Sweden, 1669
Located in Langweer, NL
This is an original detailed engraving of the greater coat of arms of Sweden, referred to in Swedish as "Svea rikes huvudvapen." The engraving was printed in Paris in 1669 according to Erik Vennberg. The coat of arms is elaborately detailed, with each escutcheon representing a component of the Swedish empire, including the arms of the House of Vasa among others. At the center, the shield is crowned with a regal crown, symbolizing the Swedish monarchy. Two regally posed lions, a common heraldic symbol of courage and strength, support the shield. The entire composition is topped with a mantle that looks to be teeming with various heraldic motifs, representing the unity and history of the Swedish nation. The intricacy of the work is indicative of the period's engraving techniques, with each line meticulously carved to bring out the opulence and intricate detail of the symbols. The coat of arms is a visual representation of the sovereignty and history of Sweden. The engraving is attributed to Jean Le Pautre, a notable French engraver from the 17th century, while the author of the work is Erik Dahlbergh...
