About the Item

Set of 3 Biblical Engravings – Epistles of Peter and John, Divine Inspiration Scenes (1735) This expressive set of three antique engravings, published in 1735, visualises theological moments from the General Epistles of Peter and John. Each print captures a dramatic episode of spiritual insight, divine dictation, and apostolic authorship. Executed in detailed copperplate engraving, the compositions are infused with visionary symbolism and Baroque grandeur, making the set ideal for collectors of scriptural prints or thematic display on divine inspiration and early Christian teaching. The first engraving, from the First Epistle of Peter, is titled *“The Suffering Christian Bearing His Cross.”* Two figures are seated in a sacred vision. The figure at right, likely Peter, gestures heavenward as he beholds a radiant sky where a cross and crown rest atop a cloud surrounded by divine light. His companion writes in a large open book, recording the vision. The symbolism of endurance and glory echoes 1 Peter’s encouragement to persecuted believers. The scene blends natural earth and supernatural presence in balanced harmony. The second engraving, from the Second Epistle of Peter, shows *“St. Peter writes this Epistle to the disperse Jews, to warn them of the Fiery Trial.”* Peter sits at the base of a hill, gazing upward as blazing orbs streak through the sky in fiery lines, one beam illuminating a descending dove—symbol of the Holy Spirit. Peter holds a large scroll inscribed with his epistle, as clouds billow with tension. The engraving dramatizes the urgency and prophetic tone of his letter, set against an apocalyptic sky. The third engraving, from the First Epistle of John, presents *“Men cannot be the Favorites of God without Obedience to his Laws & Love to his Children & Servants.”* St. John is seated outdoors with pen and open book, bathed in heavenly light as a dove radiates divine rays from the sky. Around him are scenes of moral teaching: a figure reading from a scroll, another beside an open chest, and a listener in the shadows. The composition weaves together divine guidance, personal reflection, and obedience—key themes of John’s pastoral epistle. Condition summary: All three prints are in good condition. Even age toning, with minor foxing and a small crease at the upper margin of the middle sheet. No tears or repairs. Crisp impressions with excellent detail. Paper is firm and well-preserved. Biblical Engravings – Vision of Candlesticks, Apostle Jude & Judgment of Angels
Located in Langweer, NL
Set of 3 Biblical Engravings – Vision of Candlesticks, Apostle Jude & Judgment of Angels (1735) This dramatic and theologically rich set of three antique engravings, published in 1735, illustrates apocalyptic and apostolic themes from the Book of Revelation and the Epistle of St. Jude. Executed in detailed copper engraving, each scene presents spiritual visions, divine authority, and prophetic symbolism with powerful visual intensity. Ideal for collectors of esoteric religious art or as a striking triptych display. The first engraving, from Revelation Chapter I, is titled “The Vision of the Seven Golden Candlesticks.” It shows the Apostle John falling to the ground in awe as he beholds Christ standing among seven candlesticks, with stars in his hand and a sword issuing from his mouth. Christ appears elevated on clouds, radiant and commanding, symbolising divine authority over the churches. The candlesticks represent the seven churches of Asia, and the vision initiates John's apocalyptic revelation. The imagery is intense and mystical, filled with light, cloud, and motion. The second engraving, from the Epistle of Jude, illustrates “The Apostate Angels reserved as Prisoners in Chains of Darkness to the Judgment of the Great Day.” An angel descends from the heavens bearing chains, binding demonic figures who writhe in terror as beams of divine light strike them. The Apostle Jude, seated below with a scroll and astonished gaze, points to the celestial vision. The composition is dramatic, balancing divine justice with earthly witness, and filled with cloud formations, angelic figures, and dynamic motion. It vividly conveys the judgment and order of the unseen spiritual realm. The third engraving shows “St. Jude the Apostle” standing upon a stone pedestal, carrying a large wooden cross...
