French 19th Century Hand-colored Fragonard Lithograph
About the Item
A striking French lithograph originally conceived by the 18th century painter Fragonard, reimagined in the 19th century by engraver Mathieu Barathier. Titled “Le Recit” which translates to English as both narrative and history, it’s a fitting concept to describe the Classical & mythological scene of a Greek philosopher and his young pupils gathered around a fire in some pastoral setting. Barathier has imbued the landscape with vitality by selectively coloring the figures in blues and yellows to varying saturation of hue. Framed and ready to hang in your interior.
