About the Item
"Catton's English Peerage" a copper engraved, hand colored heraldic coat of arms drawn by Charles Catton and engraved by Francis Chesham.
The motto "Francha, Leale Toge" is an ancient Cornish phrase meaning "Free and Loyal Art Thou".
Catton was a coach painter to King George III and founding member of the Royal Academy.
This print has been framed to museum standards. The French lined mat is done by hand with a series of watercolor lines and a watercolor panel. There is also a panel of marbleized paper with mitred corners and layed in by hand.
