About the Item

Original heliogravure from the first issue of Verve (Vol. 1, No. 1, 1937), the iconic French art journal directed by Tériade and printed by Draeger Frères in Paris. This piece reinterprets a medieval tapestry scene in Sauvage’s distinctive style, blending the elegance of historical court imagery with ornamental complexity. This particular image presents a procession of noblewomen dressed in opulent garments, surrounded by richly patterned flora, characteristic of the Millefleurs tradition. Sauvage’s approach lends a theatrical and dreamlike air to the scene, while staying faithful to the stylized rhythm of medieval textile art. Executed in heliogravure, a high-quality photomechanical technique that preserves tonal subtleties, this print is part of a landmark publication that featured collaborations with artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Brassaï, and Man Ray. Framed in high-quality black lacquered wood. The frame shown is for reference only; each work will be custom framed upon purchase. Mat proportions may vary slightly due to individual mounting.
