About the Item
A limited edition Op Art serigraph on paper titled “Saphan II,” from 1968 by Omar Rayo Reyes (Colombian, 1928-2010). A modern optical art work depicting a series of black and white geometric designs. On bottom edge written in pencil – edition number 59 / 75, signature omar rayo ’68 to the lower left, and title Saphan II lower right.
Serigraph was professionally clean and the original frame’s mat and backing replaced with acid free materials. New UV 70% glass. The last 4 images show the before and after conditions. There was an original red/blue paper label on the back of the original frame which was removed and reglued. We have seen other Rayo works in original frames with the same paper label.
Omar Rayo Reyes was a renowned Colombian artist who was part of the Op Art movement. Rayo’s works are known for their abstract geometry often using red, yellow, black and white colors.
Condition: Very Good. The serigraph has been professionally clean and reframed with museum acid free material and UV 70% glass using the original artist’s frame. Frame in Good vintage condition.Please look at pics of before & after cleaning.

Omar Rayo
Rayo (1928-2010) was a renowned Colombian painter and sculptor. He was one of the leading Op Art practitioners in Latin America during the 1960-70s. In 1981, he founded, in collaboration with the Colombian government, a museum bearing his name, devoted to modern Latin American art, in his hometown of Roldanillo (near Cali).
