Tytgat's style can be described as a simplification of reality with an intended naivety. He derived his inspiration mainly from daily life and incorporated these experiences in his own dream world. For the present lot Tytgat was inspired by the traditional seven sacraments in the Church: Baptism, Confirmation or Chrismation, Eucharist, Penance, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony.
