As the first publication to name the Pacific Ocean and correctly depict the American continents, it revolutionized cartography and historical understanding.
Sebastian Münster (1489–1552), a Franciscan monk, cartographer, cosmographer, and Hebrew scholar, was among the leading intellectuals of his era.
