About the Item

Set of three original antique fish prints. Greater pipefish, Syngnathus acus 54, and Sargassum pipefish, Syngnathus pelagicus 55,56. Straight-nosed pipefish, Nerophis ophidion, and short-snouted seahorse, Hippocampus hippocampus. Short dragonfish, Eurypegasus draconis 59,60, and longtail seamouth, Pegasus volitans 61,62. Gottlieb Tobias Wilhelm (1758 – 1811) was a Protestant pastor and natural history writer, and the son of Christian Art Wilhelm, an art dealer and publisher in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany. These engravings are from the fish section of Wilhelm’s monumental 25 volume work on Natural History.
