Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Vtg 1960s-1970s RYB Magnesium Engraving Printing Plates
About the Item
Set of 3 vintage Mickey Mouse & Disney themed halftone magnesium engraving plates for printing. Engraving is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines or dots are cut into a metal plate in order to hold the ink. Ink is then packed into this and is transferred from the plate to paper with a press. These plates were likely used for some type of color advertising in the 1960's-1970's. Ideal set for the avid collector of vintage Disney memorabilia. Can be mounted/framed as a triptych for an optimal showcase piece.
The infamous Mickey Mouse is displayed in a welcoming pose on a platform in the lower left corners. Two ballet dancers with elaborate floral costumes are depicted in the upper right corners. These dancers could possibly be representing an Alice in Wonderland attraction.
Each plate has an individual color reference, Red, Yellow & Blue. Color printing involves reproduction techniques suited for printing presses capable of thousands or millions of impressions for publishing newspapers, magazines, brochures, cards, posters and similar mass-market items. The technique used to print full-color images involves a four color process using the secondary colors (cyan, magenta, yellow) and black. However, RYB (red, yellow, and blue) are the traditional primary colors of pigment, and it is possible to obtain an array of colors using just these 3 colors. The difference being, you would not be able to reproduce the amount of color options as you would with CMYK printing.
Each plate marked at front with "LPIU" and "611P". The Lithographers' and Photoengravers' International Union (LPIU) was a labor union representing printing workers in the United States and Canada. The union was founded on September 7, 1964, when the Amalgamated Lithographers of America merged with the International Photo-Engravers Union of North America.
