About the Item

From Tohoku area, Japan. Antique indigo Boro textile with Sashiko stitching , probably used as Kotatsu Futon (Thick blanket for brazier table) estimate from the size & condition. 3 to 4 layers of cotton / linen clothes are patched & quilted together with Sashiko. These antique textile pieces are probably from older Kimono's, including hand-woven, indigo-dyed cotton & linen clothes, some of them can be older than 1900s. Kasuri (Japanese Ikat), Shima (stripes), also Akane-dyed (East Asian madder) cotton too. While this Sashiko stitching is in simple pattern, but finished neatly for this size of textile. We can see full of warm, handmade-ish, "just for using at home" feeling from this Boro blanket, this essence is also one side of Wabi Sabi. this is the result of hard work by ordinary mom or grandma of that time.
