About the Item

This wall hanging is all over hand-embroidered Suzani design, silk & cotton ground and the embroidery thread is 100% silk. Suzani, which means "embroidery" in Uzbek, began around the 17th century by nomadic women in Central Asia as wedding gifts. The most common design seen in Suzani, the large flower, is said to symbolize the sun, the source of life for all things, and the brilliance of all things. The vines growing from the flowers represent a wish for a happy married life and, by extension, the prosperity of descendants. The golden age of suzani was from the 18th century to the 19th century, and after being annexed by Russia, the production of suzani was regulated, so it gradually became obsolete. However, since the Central Asian countries became independent in 1991, this traditional cloth has been reconsidered and is now being actively made again as a result of the attention of European and American enthusiasts. At our shop, we carefully select and introduce wonderful suzani with no disorder in the stitches.
