Bruxella In Brabanti, Tapestry Atelier G. Chaudoir - Sun, Marce Truyens - N 1528

About the Item

Bruxella In Brabanti, important Tapestry from Atelier Georges Chaudoir - Sun, Marce Truyens - N° 1528 Artist: Soleil by Marce Truyens Era: 20th century Style: 1950s-1960s design Condition: Perfect condition Material: Wool Width: 215 cm Height: 150 cm Depth: 0.5 cm Georges Chaudoir, with the active assistance of his wife Suzanne Perot, is considered the renovator of the art of tapestry, once so popular in Brussels. He is also, sadly, the last representative of this activity that made Brussels famous for centuries. In 1910, he took over Arthur Lambrechts' workshop, founded in 1878, almost a hundred years after the closure of Jacques Van der Borcht's workshop, the last representative of the ancient tradition. After his death, Suzanne Perot, with the help of one of her daughters, Georgette Lambin-Chaudoir, and her grandson, Michel Borin, a decorator who graduated from the Etterbeek School of Arts and Crafts, continued this business until Suzanne Perot's death. Thus ended the last Brussels factory, the only one allowed to use the *BB* (Bruxella in Brabantia) trademark, surrounding the red shield of the Brussels master tapestry makers, a trademark found in the works of masters such as Leyniers, Van der Borcht, Reydams, and Van der Dussen. Marce TRUYENS (born in 1939) Modern tapestry circa 1960, knotted wool, abstract composition, signed lower right and workshop monogrammed on the left. In keeping with tradition, this magnificent tapestry has undergone a thorough cleaning by our experts in our artisan workshop. It is now ready to adorn your home.
