Contemporary multicolour Blue Moon Land tapestry Alfie Furry Friends

About the Item

Sprung from a desire to change rooms into worlds. To create an immersive, warm dreamscape to get lost in. Showing the beauty of complexity and bringing the the healing elements of nature into our homes. Made from leftover cut off yarns, a rest product from carpet making. Each strand placed, and attached with a barbed felting needle. Using the natural scales of the wool fibre to create a felt texture reminiscent of impressionist paintings.   My name is Alfhild Kulper. I am a Swedish artist and designer, aiming to create physical representations of the soft spots in our minds. I graduated from Central Saint Martins University of the Arts London 10 years ago. And have since lived in the Netherlands, working as a fashion designer for the dutch brand Viktor & Rolf. In 2019 I started making textile art under the name Alfie’s Fuzzy Friends, and in 2021 I took the scary and exciting leap to become a full time artist. Turning from dressing the body towards dressing our living spaces. Creating emotionally loaded, soft shaped textile pieces. Using a mix of traditional tufting techniques with 3D embroidery, I craft landscapes and figures, out of leftover wool from the textile industry in India. They depicture abstract memories of joy and our guardian angels and selves. Thinking of our new digital habitats, that we create as we change and demolish our original landscapes. A glimpse of a lighter world. And a hopefulness of new beginnings and excitement for what is to come.
